Wario is a recurring character in the Mario franchise, designed to be an arch-rival to Mario. His name is a combination of Mario's name and the Japanese word warui (悪い), meaning "bad."
He first appeared in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins as the main antagonist. Later, we find him in two series dedicated to him: Wario Land and WarioWare. He then appears in the games Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, and all other series derived from the universe of Mario.
Due to his repulsive physique, he has the image of a stingy, rich, mostly robust, and dirty man. He is competitive and always wants to win the top prize, which sometimes leads him to do low blows on his opponents. He is mercantile and does his maximum to earn as much money as possible, whatever the means employed. Wario has very muscular arms that can support several times his weight.
